Links for August 18, 2006

As part of The Daily Scribe, a majority of us are doing the Scribe Jamboree, where we take some of our favourite posts over the week off the Daily Scribe and link to them every Friday. I’m just going to mix them in with my occasional links.

A great quote from Eugene Peterson, posted by Stupid Church People.

…the biblical fact is that there are no successful churches. There are, instead, communities of sinners, gathered before God week after week in towns and villages all over the world. The Holy Spirit gathers them and does his work in them. In these communities of sinners, one of the sinners is called pastor and given a designated responsibility in the community. The pastor’s responsibility is to keep the community attentive to God. It is this responsibility that is being abandoned in spades.

Oh Steve Harper, where art thou. He never showed up at the International Aids Conference this week in Toronto, and people aren’t happy. Read about that here and here. Via. Also, if you are interested, you can see a lot of the videos of the conference from presentations from President Clinton, Bill Gates and others.

A a good little post about Scripture and context.

I thought this was a well-informative post on Buddhism and the afterlife. If you ever wondered or tried to grasp what reincarnation means or how a Buddhist would understand their regeneration then read this post.

This is not just happening in New Orleans, but all over the world.

I haven’t gotten to use this software yet, but I’m excited to do so. It takes two photos, or three, or many and merges them together to create one large photo, as seamless as possible, and its freeware. It’s called DoubleTake.

  1. nathan … the scary thing is that quote is from a book published in 1990. Has it gotten better, or worse? I think we are waking up to this fac, but I think it got worse ( mid-90’s? to ??? ) before it may now be getting better. We’re certainly in a space where we are taking a hard look.

  2. if one all of a soul’s thoughts
    as constituting his temple…
that is probably the only level of a having
met jesus in the air successfully
namely air as symbolic of the conscious mind..air
in taoism air is divided into wood and metal..
perhaps the 2 elements of the 5
in terms of finding true peace..

Luk 12:50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with; and how am I straitened till it be accomplished!
Luk 12:51 Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division:
Luk 12:52 For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three.

THE BAPTISM WHERE THE REMAINING INDWELLING SINS
ARE FULLY PURGED FROM ONE’S PAST..
NOT THAT JESUS WASNT BORN WITHOUT SIN..
HOW TO SORT THIS OUT FOR SURE..I AM NOT SURE
BUT PRETTY SURE I AM ON THE RIGHT TRACK
about the baptism for himself he spoke..

oh by the by when jesus had all his sins purged before he incarnated as jesus
seems to me to be what happened to him
in zechariah 3 as the high priest that lifetime

so what put me on the trail of all this craziness…besides god the mother..the holy spirit…
ah twas i confess for the most part
    the edgar cayce material :)

    oops back to
about where one can find a successful church…
probably only in terms of individuals
who have purged all there remaining indwelling sin
    and have thus restored israel..
the conscious mind to join the renewed
subconscious mind or heart in perfect harmony
